SONNYMOON- 2012 EP STREAMS + NEAR ME VIDEO

When our dear friends  Sonnymoon sent us their latest EP: 2012 via email, it didn’t take but a five minutes for the whole staff to stop what we were doing and listen. The five-song project sent all of us into a euphoric tailspin, as we discussed their updated sound. It’s still the same Sonnymoon we fell in love with circa Golden Age, but it seems as if they’ve turned up the voltage a bit on this one. We’re posting the link to the write up and links shortly, but for now, enjoy the streams and visuals for my favorite new track, “Near Me.” Feels like an out of-body-experience. Enjoy.

MAIYA PRESENTS…RENDEZVOUS-THE SOUL EDITION

The new year always brings massive periods of reflection for me. Not only do we all start a new chapter, but I have a January birthday, so I’m looking ahead and acknowledging my past simultaneously. I assess where I want to be,  areas of life to improve and lessons to keep in my back pocket.  I’ve always been an extremely deep thinker, and music significantly marks and highlights different seasons on my life.

Blind I is making some exciting changes this year and it’s beginning with revamping the way we approach our compilations.  I thought about doing an Innervisions mix, because I’ve been playing soul music  heavily for a few months, but I wanted to sprinkle this mix with the elements of Rendezvous (love, heartache, sex). So voila, a new baby has been born! Rendezvous: The Soul Edition. Some of these songs have a special meaning to me personally, so hopefully through sharing, they will make their mark on you as well.

I truly hope you will listen to each song and let them play all the way through (you know the old school joints take time to warm up). Think of how many good songs you’ve skipped because the beginning was boring?!? The slow cooker in this batch is “Higher My Love.”  The way the vocals kick in out of nowhere at 2:10 and the build up give me the chills. I had a thorough singing two-step combo in my apartment when I first heard it. I tried to sequence these songs in a way that sort of tells a story. Listen to the words. Feel the energy and let it move you!

My new obsession. Yuna is signed to FADER’s label, and she’s a 25 year old Malaysian Muslim with influences including No Doubt, The Cranberries and Fiona Apple, amongst others. Her previous works (namely last year’s Decorate EP), which I’ve been jamming too religiously, are reminiscent of a bit of Feist, but honestly I feel like her songwriting & voice are much better. Yeah, it’s like THAT. Check out a Soundcloud stream of her new Pharrell-produced joint ‘Live Your Life‘, and then grab it on iTunes like I did. Can’t wait until the world knows Yuna!
